Everybody knows that quote ...

And sometimes this quote is become the best insult someone give to a teacher.

What do they know about teaching?

None, i believe. 

Because if they know how to become THE REAL TEACHER, 

they’ll keep their mouth shut (mind my language).  

Is teacher the second best (or even the last best) profession in whole world? (hyperbolic)

Become teacher is not easy as you think.

It’s takes all your mind, energy, heart to it.

The teacher is an excellent military strategist, they going for a “war”.

The moves that they will take, is not a clumsy one. They must prepare everything.

Here’s all an excellent military strategist should have.

1.   Perfect escape plans.

if you “tap dance” your way out of a sticky situation, then that implies that you get out of it in a clever way.

Every “trap” (questions) made by student, teacher should have the “escape” plan (answers).

     

Have you ever heard a story about a trapped lion and a mice?

Teacher is the lion, student is a trap and teacher’s escape plan is the mice.     

Student is full of curiousity, they can ask you anything. Sometimes you can answer that, sometimes you can’t answer that because not appropiate to you to answer and finally you don’t know what the answer.

Teacher always learning. Old and new, small and big stuff, teacher must know about it.

     

2.   Anthropologist in action.

Teacher are dealing with a “savage” inlander with awesomely fighting spirit.

Dealing with elementary student or even a teenage student is not an easy one. They got all the energy to behave uniquely, that really need a different treatment from the teacher.

Winning a war is not about powering someone, but sometimes how to pursuade someone to do your will.

Pursuade need all the charm, sweet talk, gentleness, care and a lot of love and laugh from the pursuader.

How can you pursuade the student who  feels that learning is just non-sense, because he/she already have everything?

How can you pursuade the student that just sit in the class is a torture?

How can you pursuade the student that is an outcast either in class, school or maybe in his/her family?

How can you help the student that give all his/her best and still stay at the “bottom” of the class?

Teacher must have different personality. A clown and a cryer, a boss and a servant, a brave and a coward, a witch and a muggle, a Superman and a Clark Kent, a noble and a peasant. Multiple personality disorder in a good way.

How’s that ???

Can you be like that ????

3.   Modern – sophisticated weapons.

The weaponry the teacher carry. The weapon are the teacher research and contemplation about the subject. How can they deliver theory based on long period research just in maximum 2 hours period of time to student?

Easy ???

Go try one, and let me know the answer.

4.   Battle field expert.

Do not forget to mention, the “war zone” where the battle begins and ends. Sometimes is friendly and sometimes is not. The war zone could be a no man’s land where everybody fight fairly or a man’s land when you must really – really careful with you step.

5.   A kamikaze spirit.

Sebelum ngajar, seorang guru harus ngerti semuanya. Teorinya dan praktiknya. Membuktikan teori yang sudah ada melalui praktikum is not easy as it looks. Melakukan praktikum bukan hal yang mudah apalagi aman, tidak semuanya aman. Sebelum semuanya disajikan ke murid, guru harus coba dulu. Sulit dan mudahnya suatu materi hingga dapat dimengerti siswa, guru yang harus memberi batasan. Apakah praktikum yang dilakukan atau tidak, guru harus coba dulu. Berbahaya atau amannya praktikum yang akan dikerjakan, guru harus coba dulu.

Guru harus punya jiwa kamikaze kalo mau sukses pelajaran.

As far as I know, all teachers can do almost anything.

Just like Bruno Mars song, Grenade, which says ...

I'd catch a grenade for ya

Throw my hand on the blade for ya

I'd jump in front of a train for ya

You know I'd do anything for ya

See I would go through all this pain

Take a bullet straight through my brain

They have to get electrifying themself before they can say how hazardous the electric is.

Do have a gut to do that ???

6.   James Bond attitude

James Bond adalah agen rahasia fiksi yang terkenal karena hatinya yang dingin, mengutamakan selesainya tugas dan kurang memperhatikan perasaannya sendiri.

Seorang guru harus punya attitude kayak gini terhadap murid, maksudnya dia harus bisa keep perasaannya sendiri, kekesalan dia sendiri, kesedihan hatinya sendiri demi tercapainya tujuan untuk mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa.

Rasa sakit hati, sedih, panik dan masalah – masalah yang mungkin ada dalam hidup seorang guru harus mereka simpan dengan rapat, murid ga perlu tahu, tujuan murid adalah belajar bukan untuk tempat curhat guru.

Ada cerita seorang murid yang bertanya kepada gurunya.

Murid : “Miss, miss pernah panik ga ngeliat kita yang kadang males belajar, bahan pelajaran masih banyak, tes udah dekat?”

Guru :“Panik kok”

Muird : “Kok, ga keliatan?”

Guru : “Kalo gurunya panik, muridnya apalagi. Trus kalo kita udah sama – sama panik, selesai tuh masalah? Kan enggak!

Makanya sepanik – paniknya guru, guru harus tetap tenang (keep it cool), berpikir positif dan cari cara biar tuh anak2 bandel itu bisa diajarain belajar cepat dan ngerti dan bisa pas ujian”

Murid : “Kok bisa sih?”

Guru : “Sekali lagi belajar, segala sesuatu bisa dicapai kalo belajar”

They have to keep smiling and full of spirit for the student, eventhough problems lingering in their mind, not mention the stomachache they feel during teaching.

My point is ....

TEACHER is AWESOME
